How an hourly paycheck is taxed
Your gross pay (rate × hours, with overtime at 1.5×) is annualized — multiplied by your paychecks per year — to find your federal income tax, then divided back down. Social Security takes 6.2% up to $184,500 of wages for the year, and Medicare takes 1.45% (plus 0.9% on wages over $200,000).
