Work Hours Calculator
How many hours did you actually work today? Enter your start and end times and your unpaid break — the answer updates as you type.
| Decimal hours (for payroll) | 8.00 |
| Per week (5 days) | 40h 00m |
How it works
We subtract your start time from your end time, then subtract your unpaid break. If your shift runs past midnight (for example 10 PM to 6 AM), the calculator rolls the end time into the next day automatically. Decimal hours are what most payroll systems use: 8 hours 30 minutes is 8.5 hours.
Common questions
Should I subtract my lunch break?
If your employer does not pay you during lunch, yes — subtract it. Short rest breaks (usually 20 minutes or less) are normally paid under U.S. federal rules, so most people leave those in.
What if my shift ends after midnight?
Just enter the times as shown on the clock. An end time earlier than your start time is treated as the next day.
Is my data saved?
No. The calculation happens in your browser and your numbers are never sent anywhere.
